DENNY CUP SUCCESS OVER LOCAL RIVALS

18 Nov 2025

For the first time in 50 years and at the third attempt, Gullivers knocked local rivals Egerton Park out of the Denny Cup in the second round, with a magnificent 96-74 scoreline.

At Knole Road, the home rink of Charles Wright, Michael Knights, Mick Pugh & Steve Judd all played well, as they romped home 42-6 against Chris Talbot. On the next rink, Alan Ritchie, Bernie Catt, Keith Waters & Ken Ferguson (stepping up to skip for the ill John Clark), were 8-15 adrift at one point, but a five on the fifteenth end and a last end count of 4 reduced the deficit to 18-21. They never stopped fighting and it was good to watch their come-back.

At Egerton Park, the teams were rearranged after Biggleston dropped out with illness and Trevor Morgan stepped up to skip Mike Evans, Mike Laxton & John Gray as they lost 14-29 to Phil Wade. On the other rink, Paul Whibley, Jeff Coates, Philip Balchin & Rob Harris recorded a 22-18 victory over Ray Batsford.

With all the other local indoor bowls clubs failing to get past round 2, it is left to Gullivers to 'fly the flag' for our local teams, as they take on Grattons (Crawley) on Saturday, 15th November.
